A beautiful 100% original antique original 19 century Russian icon silver and enamel riza circa 1880s, with the image of Tikhvin Mother of God, contained in an original display case wooden andguildedkiot. A nice quality multi-piece lightly guilded silver riza with enamel plates indicating the name of the icon. The silver riza is marked with an Imperial 84 silver standard in at least 2 places. Work masters initials are N.G. inCyrillic. Two missing decorations in the upper corners. The icon is hand painted on a wooden board over gesso. Warm and compassionate expressions on the faces of Mother of God and baby Jesus. The icon is contained in the original hand carved wooden display box orkiot, with the remnants of gold guilding. The icon comes from a private estate. It was brought to the United States by a noble Russian family escaping therevolution in 1917. The icon remained in thepossessionof the same family for over 130 years. The icon is in original unrestored antique condition, and is generally well preserved. There are some minor dents on the edges of the silver riza, as shown on pictures. I have not removed the silver riza to examine the icon under it. Thekiot has some condition issues due to age with partial loss ofbuilding and chipping. The size overall is about 16\" x 14\" x 3\" or about 41 cm x 36 cm x 8 cm. The icon is about 10 1/4\" x 8 1/2 \" or 26 cm x 21.5 cm. Shipping costs includeinsurance, and are accordingto the USPS website quote, and are reflective of the size and fragility of the icon.
