ANTIQUE SCARCE CHINESE RED LACQUER OCTAGONAL TEA CADDY COMPLETE c1880 single compt.
As seen all in very good condition, although please note some rubbing to the original hand decorated / painted designs to some forward panels on the box. But a very interesting box, scarce, the first I have seen of octagonal form as a single compartment tea caddy of this type. It is red lacquered over a wooden base with hand decoratedgold gilt panels as seen. The box is supported on four carved wooden claw feet and has its key working well in the lock, locking and opening again the box as originally intended. Internally it has its original octagonal tea cannister in very good order with inner & outer lids present. Chinese, Cantonese manufacture circa 1880/90. The box has had a careful clean, it looks lovely and as such is very presentable. Measuring approx 6 x 6 x 5 7/8 inches high.
