Here is another rare find from a fine sale recently held in Charleston...a great set of over 200 year old Paris done in classic hand painted Chinese style polychrome enamel with heavy gold gilded pie crust edge. This set of eleven plates were made on Rue Popincourt in Paris at the Coeur d\'Acier factory from 1796 to 1812 and we know this due to the small impressed heart on the rear of each plate. Each plate also bears the artist or decorator mark which is the same four green enamel dots on each plate on the inside edge of the under rim. These plates are stunning and each plate is a work of art! Between the lovely floral decoration and the scalloped edge, the subject in the center of plate with the Chinese scholar objects are super interesting...the scroll, the art object of the vase on a stand, and the plates of fruit. Each of these lovely plates was hand painted and signed by the same artist with polychrome enamel and gold gilt. The colors are fabulous and bright...the rose, the turquoise, the green and the brown...on the white ground.
Each dinner plate is 10 3/8\" in diameter.
Look up the impressed heart mark, the chief products (in the 1700\'s and at the turn of the century from 1800 into the first few years of the 19th century) of the small Coeur d\'Acier factory were Chinese porcelain copies. Many Continental firms attempted this and only a few were as successful as Coeur d\'Acier.
I will be glad to pass on the previous owner\'s name to the highest buyer. Part of the reason they are in such great condition is because they have been in storage for years.
