DISTINCTIVE UNUSUAL SUNSET LANDSCAPE

We are selling a wonderful huge antique oil painting done by St Clair Augustin
Mulholland (1839 - 1910). Painting was done in the Circa 1850-1870. The artist
rarely did oil paintings, most of what you see are watercolors. This is a rare painting!

Mulholland was a Pennsylvania artist who studied and painted n Paris, France. When he returned to Penna., he brought with him the Impressionistic style, which is seen in this painting.

Signed \"S.A. Mulholland\" lower left side. This artist used different names it seems! For some reason the name plaque says St. John Mulholland!

Title: There is a plaque on the frame, however, we cannot make out the name. It could be polished to be read, if so desired.

Frame: 43\" H X 31 W . Frame measures 4\" around the painting. All measurements are approximate.

Both painting and frame are not in good condition. We are hoping that someone will want to leave it as is and hang it on the wall, or have it restored. There are tears in the canvas, needs to be relined to make it tight. The original frame has pieces missing, and some loose gesso. A few more pieces are gone, not shown in the pictures. We will try to secure any pieces before mailing.

NOTE- everytime we move it, a piece of the frame wants to fall off! Perhaps it would be best, and less expensive to just send the painting. If you would like the frame, we will not be responsible if more of the frame is damaged in the move.

\"In the 1880\'s he went to London and then Paris to study and paint. Most of his
paintings are watercolors ($200-$700), some oils ($1,000-up). I believe, many of his works are listed as by \"Samuel\" \"john\"or \"Sydney\" Mulholland a \"British artist.\" A comparison of signatures, subjects, and style all point to the conclusion that these are works by St. Clair Augustin Mulholland, American artist.\"
