For your consideration is a c.1896-1911 Antique Tiffany & Co.sterling mesh evening purse. The purse iscrafted entirely by hand of sterling silver metal rings. The rings are intricately linked togetherinto a fine ring mesh, which appears to be a derivation of chain mail mesh usedin medieval armor. The mesh suggests a protective, hard to penetrate exterior yet, it is decorated with a delicatepierced floral and reticulated vine and leaf pattern. The traditional kiss closure in the shape of two sweet flower buds entwined to close the purse. American goldsmith Frank T. May handcrafted thispurse for Tiffany & Co. He was in businessin New York, NY and Rutherford, NJ from 1896-1943. The bag is hallmarked insideon the frame just below the kiss closure “TIFFANY & CO.” on one side andthe other side reads “MCT STERLING 603” (MCT hallmarkstands for Frank T. May, Co). Additionally it is engraved on the top of theframe by a previous owner reading “H.F.D. FROM C.C.D.” leaving their mark on thislovely piece of American history. Condition: Appears as if hardly used. No tears or repairs to the mesh or purse, closure in working condition. Measurements: The mesh portion of the purse measures 5 inches in width(horizontally from mesh to mesh edge) x 5-1/2 inches from the top(vertically) of the kiss closure to the bottom of the mesh. The handle measures approximately 14 inches in length.
