Beautifully worked with beaded roses and hellebores to the central design with a ground in a combination of silks and wool embroidery/Berlin work, thus highlighting the flowers.
Very unusual, rare & well executed piece.
Beadwork Panel Size approx: 20 x 11 inches (50 x 27 cm) with fine beaded fringing.
Lined with a satiny finish cotton fabric to back.
Beads featured widely in Victorian embroidery, but because of their delicate nature few beautiful examples survive, especially in good condition.
Beadwork requires an enormous number of beads, which were hand sewn and carefully selected to match the mesh size of the canvas, so as to lie neatly in alignment.
An absolutely gorgeous, richly coloured antique Victorian piece, which would originally have been a decorative banner or valance for a tiny window.
