Exceptional Victorian jewellery box in beautifully figured burr walnut with wide and very colourful Tunbridge ware bands of various exotic woods in an intricate pattern. The box also has diamond shaped and Tunbridge framed mother of pearl inlay to the lid cartouche with the design repeated to the mother of pearl inlay on the lock escutcheon which is complete with its fully working original twin keep lock and a tasseled key. The interior of the box is fitted in shades of red and claret and has a lift out jewellery tray with several divided sections including three ring holder slots and two lidded compartment trimmed in claret satin with pearl handles, below the tray is a generous storage area finished in matching red. The under lid liner is in striking white pearl satin sunburst pleat, framed in a complimentary deep claret satin border trim. The lid liner opens forward by means of a small brass catch to reveal a correspondence compartment behind. At the base the box is finished with traditional green burlap. This very pretty box with exceptional inlay has been professionally and sympathetically restored to a high standard and with a lovely refurbished interior is now ideal for your jewellery items or other precious keepsakes.
