******Note- the very first photo with the daisy\'s is not of my item, but rather of an identical item that I saw somewhere else. All of the other photos are of the actual item for sale. I posted the one with the flowers so it was easier to see what it\'s original intended use was.
I am relisting this item because payment was never made by the previous winning buyer.
I listed this beautiful piece as a serving dish because I think that is likely what it would be used for by most. It is more correctly a flower plate/centerpiece with a \"frog\" cover. It was originally used as a centerpiece that would have had short stemmed cut flowers such as daisy\'s inserted through the lid. The effective double grid formed by the 2 pieces of the lid would keep the flowers upright and not flopping. As I attempted to show in the pictures, the inner piece on the inside of the lid can just be turned off a threaded post on the underside of the knob handle on the lid if you just wanted to use the outer, ornate lid.
It is a silver plated piece made by Meriden B co. in the late 1890\'s. It is extremely ornate and in very nice condition. See the condition section for details. The typical tarnish that such silver pieces get is the only condition issue. If the necessary effort is made to polish the piece I would think that all tarnish and spotting can be polished away. The dish is 10 inches across, and about 3 inches deep. It could be used to serve countless food items, as well as items on short skewers. It is a beautiful item- my wife has mixed feelings about even letting it go.
