In the Hindu faith, theTilaka(Hindi: तिलक) is a mark worn usually on the forehead, though can sometimes be applied to other parts of the body such as neck, hand or chest.Tilakamay be worn on a daily basis, or reserved for rites of passage or special religious occasions only, depending on regional customs.Traditionally, anyone who wishes to acknowledge the simple truth that “I am Lord Krishna\'s servant” can weartilaka, the clay mark that although normally vermillion, can come in other colours. It doesn\'t have a standard form or shape, but applied differently by devotees of different Hindu sects.
This delightful vintage tikka box will have been used to store the vermillion powder used for tilaka. Crafted out of teak, it features a delightful hand-carved heart motif. You may prefer to use it as a spice or jewellery box?
