This is an sale for a vintage large 19th century W. & L.E. GURLEY brass vernier compass transit. This sale includes the original mahogany wooden case, the brass Gurley swivel tripod head and Gurley Compass. The outside diameter of the compass is 4 1/2\". The swivel head stands 3 1/2\" tall and is meant to be the top mount of a tripod which then allows for the variable adjustments for leveling of the compass. The case measure 5 1/2 x 6 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches. The original maker\'s tag has been long lost, but this appears to match substantially others by the same maker. This compass allows for adjusting to magnetic variation. The compass is in excellent unrestored condition and is functional and complete. One of the adjustments for the swivel ball head is tight and needs attention to loosen up. Email with any questions or answers.
