ANTIQUE c. 1900 EDWARDIAN Complete CLOTHING Ensemble GOWN PARASOL HAT FAN GLOVES:
$850.00

For sale is this truly museum quality set of Edwardian clothing and accessories. All of these pieces were part of a mourning ensemble worn by a wealthy woman in Los Angeles around 1900. This was purchased at the high end estate sale of her granddaughter. The outfit consists of the following pieces: Two piece dress, frilled silk fold-able parasol, lace fan with original box, hat, and fingerless lace gloves.*Gown: This must have been an extremely high end garment at the time that it was made. It has the original makers label, which is Terrill, Los Angeles Ca.. The base of the dress is silk with several kinds of inset and applique lace and embroidered trim. The top even has fabric embroidered balls hanging down from embroidered roses on four parts of the front and back, and from the center of the front as well. The detailing is really couture, with ruched sleeves and a twisted ribbon detail down each sleeve, and at least three kinds of expensive lace and an amazing amount of trim. It has an intricate internal construction with some light fabric covered boning, and about 100 metal hooks. The skirt is a walking length with a slight train, and is inset with lace and with a stiff bottom-frilled petticoat underneath. It even has a small maybe 4\" wide padded bustle, as the larger bustles of styles of the 1890s were on their way out. In between the lace panels it has smaller areas of crochet lace with a parallel lines slight tuck decoration, and it culminates in three flounces.Measurements:
Bust: 32\"- 34\"- hard to measure with all of the hooks and layers
Waist: 26-27\" (there are hooks to hook the 2 pieces together but it was too hard to manipulate on the mannequin and that it why there is a gap).
Sleeve Length: 19\"
Shoulder to waist: 18\"
Waist to bottom of skirt: 41\" front, 44\" back.Condition: Overall this is in pretty spectacular shape, and is not in fragile or delicate condition as it has been well cared for over the years. I would not be at all surprised if this was worn once for the funeral and then packed away for the past 116 years. I have noticed a couple of places where the extremely fragile net lace is broken in the neck area, and there are a couple of the fabric covered hanging balls missing from the back. There was a thin band of very delicate embroidered lace on the end of the sleeves which is also mostly gone/and or damaged. The only issue I found with the skirt is there is one small area on one flounce where the hem stitching has come out, but this can be fixed with just a few well placed stitches.*Fan: This is a fan from the New York high end department store Altman & Co. and comes with the original box. Is in excellent condition with lace and sequins, and the base appears to be a carved \"french Ivory\" or celluloid. It measures 9 1/2\" long and 17\" when spread, and has an attached satin ribbon.*Gloves: There is a set of mostly fingerless lace net gloves that have a separation for the thumb. These appear to have never been worn, and measure 17\" long.*Hat: The hat is made by Louis & Co. Milliners New York, with stores in Paris, London, Newport, Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia. It measures 10\" x 8\" with two long tiers of embroidered lace net going 30\" down the back, and satin ribbons to tie under the chin. It includes 5 simple hat pins in the back to hold it on. It is in perfect condition except for the satin ribbons which are starting to shred.*Parasol: The parasol is really lovely with the body made entirely of black silk with frills. It is designed to fold down, with the handle made of what appears to be ebony, and a metal slide that goes over a hinge. The silk is in great shape, with just one small hole I found on one frill, and the edges of the silk frills starting to separate just a tiny bit. It measures 27\" long or 15\" when folded and the umbrella is about 21\" across when open.
