Originally performed in classical Athens in 411 BC, it is a comic account of one woman\'s extraordinary mission to end The Peloponnesian War, the war between Athens and Sparta. Lysistrata convinces the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace, a strategy however that inflames the battle between the sexes.

The play is notable for its exposé of sexual relations in a male-dominated society and for its use of both double entendre and explicit obscenities. The dramatic structure represents a shift away from the conventions of Old Comedy, a trend typical of the author\'s career.

Aristophanes created a true classic; a deep source of humor that has kept audiences laughing for some 2,400 years.

Fully Illustrated by Pablo Picasso, this edition of Lysistrata contains six etched copperplates and forty pencil drawings.

Each plate, each drawing, bears witness to his mastery of method and technique. His line is sure, confident; it cries out to the world that the man who drew it knows what he was about. And the line is pure, it is that sort of line of which even the Greeks used to say that this is \"pure Grecian line.\"

This book is thought by many to be one of the finest illustrated books of the Twentieth Century and though the illustrations are all reproductions from the classic 1934 edition (hence no real copperplates or authentic etchings), this may well be the finest produced edition of this classic, offered by the Easton Press.

It is far less expensive than Priority Mail, but - it ..... is ........... slooowwwww!!!! Despite USPS claims of 3-9 day delivery times, MEDIA MAIL CAN actually TAKE UP TO 3 WEEKS to arrive, and their tracking info is frequently not updated until it actually arrives, making that feature pretty useless! PLEASE remember this when you leave response scores as the choice is yours and not my fault if it takes a long time to get there! If you want it in a week or less, you are going to have to bite the bullet and pay for Priority Mail which will get it there in 2-3 working days, 99% of the time, but it is more expensive. Basically, the choice is yours, but if you choose media mail, please don\'t write to me in 5 days asking where your package is, because the post office will have it and most of the time, they don\'t have a clue! deliveries usually arrive within 1-2 weeks but CAN take up to a month! Faster shipping is available on request, but expensive.
