DESCRIPTION: MARVELOUS GERMAN 1940s era ART DECO CERAMIC PORCELAIN & PAINTED MONKEY ASHTRAY or PIPE HOLDER, numbered 23160 (incised) on bottom of ashtray - no crown mark but sure looks like a Sitzendorf German Majolica piece to me (Sitzendorf made a smaller almost identical version of this piece, same base figurine, same glaze color, same details, same 5 digit numbering system). Great ceramic glaze paint detail with excellent facial features, body details, and color highlights.

Monkey appears to be holding knees or his testicles. A little German humor. P

NUMBERED: INCISED NUMBER ON THE BOTTOM #23160.

MAKER: no trademark, but definately looks to me like a German majolica porcelain piece by Sitzendorf (who also used the same 5 digit block style numerical numbering system on their monkey figurines). This is my opinion based on a little research - please use your own experience and judgement when determining maker. What you see in the pictures in the photo gallery is what you will receive.

MEASUREMENTS: dimensions are approximately 6” inches length (measuring from toes to back of head) , 4” inches width (measuring at widest part elbow to elbow), 2 3/4th” inches high (from table top to top of head).

Condition: pre-owned. No chips or cracks. No scratches. May have some dust in the crevices. Looks unused to me. Overall at least very good to probably excellent in my opinion.
