FINE ANTIQUE PAINTING BY WELL LISTED ARTIST DOUGLAS VOLK ESTATE _MAINE LANDSCAPE O/B_MAINE LANDSCAPE UNTOUCHED This stunning impressionistic oil painting came from the Hewn Oaks estate sale of famous artist Douglas Volk (1856-1935). This painting came from the Volk estate and is of the period, but I believe this was painted by an artist friend of Volk and not by Volk.It came from that particular estate sale that washeld in Gray, Maine. Douglas Volk went to Paris in 1873 to study under Jean-Leon Gerome. He is a well listed American artist who established his reputation by painting romanticized historical subjects depicting life in colonial America, especially scenes of 17th C. Puritan Society. He later became an accomplished portraitist who had a lifelong career in art education (In 1886, he founded the Minneapolis School of Fine Art).

This beautiful painting on academy board measures 10.25\"x 16.75\". Placed in an old, period frame thatshows some damage (as shown).The board is very slightly warped, but no flaws in the paint and very well kept all these years as opposed to several others. It had been wrapped in plain paper for years. A very nice primitive style oil. Could be a good investment piece.
