This is a guaranteedauthentic handmade late 18th century or early 19th century Russian wood icon. There are hundreds of fake reproductions on the internet. This is absolutely not any kind of reproduction. Real Russian icons that were used by families for religious purposes typically hung over the fireplace. This icon is darkened from smoke and could use a professional cleaning to show the once vibrant colors. However, I will leave that to the new owner. On the back is the customs lead seal with a registered number. I am sure that the number could be researched as all antiquities leavingEastern Europehad to be recorded. It may have also gone through customs in Romania based on the lead seal.Real 18th centuryicons seldom come on the market and usually only at very high end sale houses. I must sell a family estate and reluctantly part with this antique treasure. Itook photos both with and without flash so that the colors can accurately be seen.
