The urn is made of a resin type material and the base seems to be made of a tin-like material.It sounds like the base has some type of sand in it to keep the urn weighed down. This is a heavy piece.It measures about 14 1/4\" from handle to handle, 8\" tall not including the handles, by 9 1/4\" tall including the handles. It measures approximately 9 3/4\" across the top including the rim.
