This superb 100+ year oldSENIOR sizepen works, writes and looks like a new pen. The mixed red and black hard rubber wood effect is simply stunning. Like the finest Burr Walnut. Has zero oxidation and is free of any dents or scratches etc. ULTRA rare to find them so clean. The twistactionautomatic filling system is fantastic. Great design. Very easy to fill. Most pens at this time still used an eye dropper to fill, a few pens started to have side lever fill systems. These A.A. Waterman \"Modern\" pens were made in New York. They are some of the finest pens made at this time. With this twist filler system they are unique. In many ways superior to L.E. Waterman pens of the early 1900s.The history of these rare pens is very interesting. First issued in 1903-04 these pens were one of the worlds first self filling pens. Based on the Harry W. Stone TWIST filler or Automatic Self Filling Pen. (U.S. Patent Nº 744,642). A.A Waterman worked with Harry Stone from the beginning and was an Original Assignee of the U.S. Patent application. This example for sale is one of those early ones. By 1912 the barrel imprints had changed due to a court order brought about by L.E. Waterman. From 1912 all A.A. Waterman pens had stamped, \"not connected with the L. E. Waterman company\". So this rare pen is guaranteed at least 100 years old. Fact.
To fill this pen could not be any easier. Simply unscrew the end cap then twist half a turn. Place nib in Ink. Release end cap so it twists back like a spring. (Twist spring back has a Very satisfying feel in the fingers.) Screw end cap back down. Take nib out of ink. Wipe excess. Done. Takes seconds and works perfect. This pen is ready to write. Just addyourfavorite bottled ink.
