This silk embroidery in Hungarian \"Matyo\" style (see UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) was acquired together with a group of other works of Alfred Waagner from the estate of his late friend, Viennese music critic, Professor Juergen Schmidt

Alfred Waagner (1886 Vienna - 1960 Vienna) was a very well known Austrian painter, illustrator and artist with strong ties to the Vienna Secession movement. From 1905 to 1907 he studied chemistry and mechanical engineering at the Technical Institute, but soon turned to the arts. In 1907, he became a pupil of the famous Viennese Art Nouveau artist, Professor Berthold Loeffler and worked in his studio at the Vienna School of Applied Arts until 1912. He debuted as exponent in 1913 at the Vienna Secession and regularly exhibited with its (and other) artists\' groups in Vienna and abroad. In 1924, Waagner\'s first personal exhibition took place in Vienna.
