Flemish School, Leda and the Swan, Oil Painting, 17th C.The erotic motif of Leda and the Swan is a recurring theme in art history, even Michelangelo and Rubens created works on this subject. Zeus fell in love with Leda and approached her in the shape of a swan and impregnated her. Ledas husband Tyndareus also shared the bed with her that night. So Leda gave birth to the sisters Helen and Clytemnestra, as well as the twin brothers Castor and Pollux, whereas the beautiful Helen and Pollux are considered descendants of Zeus.
