I have seen a lot of whirligigs in my time but never one like this. All in working condition and in great shape for its age. this gig has 6 horses, Mickey and Minnie a large circus elephant and an amazing merry go round with a Flag on top. All characters are hand painted on both sides and all paintexcept for top of merry go round is in great shape. There has been some minor reglueing to the prop. and horses over the years but it just adds to the character of this early piece of folk art. As best I can tell the art form came from a California farm in the 40s, no other information available. Size of the piece is 41 inches long, 16 inches wide and app. 21 inches tall. All characters are hand cut, forged,soldered and hand painted. The top paint has a super age crazing to it, to bad someis loose andmissing. The entire mechanism of this piece is quite intricut and works amazingly well. Pretty cool what happend in the shop or barn many years ago.
