Joseph E. McCLELLAND, Handwritten Diary, 1892, Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan.

This diary was written by Joseph E.McClelland, who was born about 1865, and accordingly was around 27 yearsold when he wrote this diary (see the 1st scanned image). The size of the diary is about 3 in. x 6½ in. There are comments about most days in the year. The diary is in very good condition with no missing pages. At the end of his diary is a list of his letters to others. McClelland wrote about going to “Demorist Contests” to see who got the medals, being elected to the Township Clerk, attending a surprise party on leap year. He went to Detroit quite a few times. The following are some noteworthy entries: “We went to Mr. Bede’s sale in the afternoon. Went to Detroit, received my Xmas present, a silkumbrella....Anna Spencer rec. medal.” \"I had aheadache this morning.\" \"Split some woodin the morning.\" \"Music by Miller family.\" \"Had toothacheand headache all night.\" \"Washedthe buggy.\" \"Went down town, got shaved.\" \"Lovely day, lovely time.\" \"Waited till R. H.came, then went to church with her.\" \"Went to Detroit, called on C.M.W.\" Some of the names mentioned are as follows: UncleJohn Harmon, Uncle Andrew Maldragh, Henry Miller, and Thomas Coopers. Some of the places mentioned are: Farmington,Birmingham, Detroit, Sand Hill, Orchard Lake,and Saginaw.
