The piece is well executed with clean lines to the ovoid form and thin applied strap handles. The neck is decorated with an incised band at the top handle attachment and at the shoulder. Both faces feature a thumb indented applied ribbon running down from the flattened top rim. The shoulder is decorated with yellow slip which is in good condition but does show some pictured loss. The jar has a striking presence measuring 13 ½\" high, 9\" wide at the shoulder and 5 ¼\" across the top rim. The piece is in very good condition with no hairlines / cracks. There are some shallow flakes to the narrow pinched / rolled band at the top rim (the longest ½\" but less than 1/8\" deep), the others ¼\" or less and again superficial (please refer to the pics). There is typical clear glaze wear along the outside and interior edge of the top rim. There is some pictured roughness along the bottom rim but that appears production. This handsome handled form would make a fine addition to any collection of antique Redware / Slip Decorated pottery.
