A very rare coinsilver service, made by Adolphe Himmel for A. B. Griswold & Co.,New Orleans, LA., c.1865-69.

Here is a coinsilver service comprising a tray, tall pitcher and 4 goblets, allsigned, variously with A. B. Griswold & Co., NO-H/New Orleans(tray) or A. B. Griswold & Co., NO-H/A.H./Coin (pitcher) or A.Himmel/New Orleans (goblets).

Arthur BreeseGriswold (1829-77) founded Thomas, Griswold & Co., in 1861 assuccessors to Hyde & Goodrich, who had been established in NOsince 1817.

In 1865 Griswoldformed a partnership with Adolphe Himmel as A. B. Griswold & Co.,and that lasted till 1869.

Adolphe Himmel wasa German immigrant who first appeared in NO records in 1852 in ashort-lived partnership with fellow German silversmith ChristopfKuchler.

In 1853 both wenttheir separate ways working for the established firms such as Thomas,Griswold & Co., Hausmans, Hyde & Goodrich, etc.

Himmel would oftenmark his produce with a simple A.H or sometimes spell it out.

The service is inincredible good condition, barring slight usage scratches and dings.

Each piece ismarked as described above, and pictured.

I have not beenable to photograph the marks on the goblets as they are deep insidethe feet.

However, they arestamped A.Himmel/New Orleans.

Pitcher: 13.1” Weight: 41 Troy oz.

Goblets: 7.1” Weight: 34 Troy oz (4).
