Northern, India- dating from the 19th century.
Cast in sections using the lost wax process, a most unusual copper alloy betel box - the detailing hand tooled and finished.
The shaped base section rests on three applied semi-spherical feet, forming a tripod. The base incorporates four shaped compartments, over which the hinged cover closes. An integral pin to the underside of the leading edge of the cover locates within corresponding lug to the base - securing the cover in the closed position. A shaped knop forms a grip to the cover.
The cover is cast with a pair of stylised birds - the birds flank a central medallion. Pierced decoration is incorporated within the cast decoration. A convex crescent form and raised dome, (with integral knop), are also incorporated within the casting of the cover - closing over corresponding compartments to the base.Overall width - 6 1/16\" (154mm).

Condition - Very Good. Minor bumps and bruises, associated with obvious genuine age and usage. Fine natural colour and patina.
