A very beautifulancient Chinese sancai glazed terracotta Wushiyong or military official guardian figure, dating to the Tang Dynasty, approximately 618 - 907 A.D.

A beautiful Sancai (three colour) glazed piece, with ambers, greens and browns dripping and bleeding into one another to create a wonderful aesthetic.

The depiction is one of a Wushiyong (military official), shown standing defiantly, dressed in elaborate armour and holding his right fist clenched at his waist, his left resting on his hip. The figure is shown slightly smiling, hishair ina top knot. The armour shown here is of the mingguang (bright and shining) type, a new close-fitting armour developed in the Tang Dynasty, which incorporated breastplate, skirt like thigh protectors and shoulder plates. A similar figure was found in the Imperial tomb of Prince Zhanghuai.

Condition: Excellent. Head restored from fragments. Exhibiting a wonderful, lustrous sancai glaze. A true testament to the skill of the ancient craftsman/men who made this piece!
