This is an ancient Roman red jasper intaglio of Jupiter, dating to the 2nd century AD. This lively scene depicts Jupiter seated on his throne, holding a Victory in one hand and a sceptre in the other. His trusty eagle stands at his feet. The intaglio is well cut and proportioned, it is in excellent condition for a two thousand year old gemstone. It does have two tiny chips though this is quite normal for jasper which is much softer than the usual agate.

The ancient gem has been reset into a hallmarked gold finger ring, enabling it to be worn and appreciated again today.
