For sale is one of several antique 17th to 18th century carved and painted santos and crucifixion figures that we are selling here in our store. These pieces all came out of a prominent collection of carved religious figures from a private Chelsea New York City estate collection. They specifically collected 16th, 17th and 18th century carved pieces which they collected mostly in Europe.
The pieces featured in this sale is a wonderfully carved and painted wooden crucifixion figure of Jesus on the cross. He wears a textile fabric loin cloth and a cut metal crown of thorns. The crown of thorns is very old in age but we are unsure whether it\'s an added addition or original. We suspect original to the piece but perhaps an early 19th century addition. It was apparently always with the figure.
Age: 17th to 18th century. Possibly earlier
Professionally mounted for hanging.
