For sale is a rare, good size - early South American or Philippines Santos, c. 17th Century - wood sculpture of a Monk -- most likely Saint Francis based on the hair style & simple robes. The piece is in overall good condition - age excepted. See condition details below, as well as all photos.Not an expert, so please preview for your own personal assessment and researchbefore buying. What I have listed is based on online research and the other Santos that I purchased this piece with.
  • Condition:Early wood carving with substantial paint loss all over, with both forearm/hands missing. The piece attaches to its original carved wood base. Everything appears to be in original condition. And you can see where an old label had been affixed to the verso of the base that likely identified the Santos figure.
  • Measurements: 12\"tall, and 5.25\" wide base or 4\" w (at the widest pt of sculpture)

  • Provenance: Maryland Estate Sale - the owner had several early Santos figures, including one that was labeled as having been created in the Philippines - 17th century. See my store for similar Santos.
