Antique French black velvet Fiddleback Chasuble, Catholic Church vestment from the late 1880\'s. Elaborate embroidery with depiction of the holy Bible, embroidered in the Old World Style in silver and gold \"metal\" metallic thread. There is additional embroidery all around the edges in a white chain stitch. Excellent vintage embroidery piece. This garment measures 24 inches wide, and hangs 28.5 inches in the front and 37 inches in the back. This vestment is in excellent condition \"for its age\" with a little wear to the velvet around the embroidery. There is wear on the back by the top button, which is a torn buttonhole. Very light staining on the interior lining, which appears to be a light linen material. Other than that, it\'s in excellent condition for a garment 135+ years old! Beautiful vestment ready for reuse or display. Purchased in France many, many years ago.
