Antique 1867 French Chassepot Bayonet Sword M1866 with Scabbard:

This bayonet is a sabre-baïonette modèle 1866.

Scabbard serial numbers do not match the swords\' numbers.

Additionally the scabbard does have some rust.

Blade is very fine marked on top MUTZIG 1867.

Overall length is about 28\"

This particular bayonet would have been fitted to a FRENCH 1866 MODEL \'CHASSEPOT\' NEEDLE-FIRE RIFLE.

markings for this weapon : on ricasso, Crowned C in a circle (for Julien Coulaux, director) and crowned K in a blazon (for Kligenthal)

About the Imperial Factory of Mutzig :

Created in 1730 by king Louis XV under the name \"Manufacture Royale d\'Armes Blanches\".

In 1797, under the french revolution, it became : \"Manufacture Nationale d\'armes de Guerre\".

In 1804, under Napoleon 1st : \"Manufacture Impériale d\'armes blanches\".

In 1836, the factory was privatized and owned by Julien Coulaux.

In 1925, it became \"Coulaux et Compagnie S.A.\"

It definitively closed in february 1962.
