This sale is for an antique 1882 Thayer’s Map of Colorado. Map was published by H. L Thayer of Denver, Colorado and printed by Julius Bien, New York. This map shows the Surveyor General’s Office, U.S. Land Ofice, Townships Subdivided, Capital of State, Principal Railroad Stations, Towns and Villages, Boundary of Counties, Railroads Completed, Railroad Land Grant Limits, Military Reservations, Indian Reservations, and Private Grants. Original price: One Dollar. This colored map is folded and is glued inside a small green hardcover as originally sold. Whole sheet measures approx. 27” x 33-3/4” while the map image itself measures approx. 24-1/2” x 28”. The hard cover measures approx. 4” x 6-7/8”..Please read this description and review the close-up photos carefully. I count eight splits on the map folds. The largest split is approx. 3” in the upper left area. There are also approx. 10 tiny holes at the intersections of folds. There is faint discoloration right along the folds. There is a small crease at one corner. Back (unprinted) side of the map has six thick shiny white tape repairs/reinforcements at intersections of folds. Except for the expected folds, the map surface is fairly smooth (not very rumpled from handling). Back side also has a sticker from International Bookfinders and a remnant from torn-off small sticker (both more recent). There are also a few words and stray marks written in both pen and pencil written in more modern handwriting on the back side. NO writing on the printed side of the map.Green hard cover has bumped, worn corners and some edge wear. Cover surfaces have some soil, scuffing, and a couple of small stains. Gold titles on the front cover have some wear but are still legible. There are tears in the backing paper where the book bends open inside the hardcover (see third photo above) along with some faint discoloration and a few small spots.
