FIRST... Would all UK buyers please read the bit right at the bottom of my description UNDERLINED in RED.

This is a really beautiful antique Georgian 18ct gold heavy engraved foliate finger ring...... it is fully hallmarked on the inside of the band  LONDON 1814 with King George III Bust as well as 18 ... indicating 18ct gold.... a makers mark either CR or GR ..this makers mark is upside down in relation to the main hallmark.... the marks are worn as it has been worn...in my opinion this finger ring is a Gentlemans and would have been worn on the little finger.. PINKY finger... I only say this really as it\'s a very  chunky ring, the hallmark is 1814 and the actual engraving momento - mourning is dated 1826. ...and then would have been worn by his wife.

You will see it is a WIDE BAND ring... and it has NO enamel..it has NEVER had enamel in it.... again I think its a normal gents finger ring.. see the really fabulous deep heavy engraved foliate design... FLOWERS - FOLIAGE etc.. as you find FOB SEALS of the period with the same deep heavy foliate engraving.. just fabulous.

Now then it gets a little more interesting when you read what it says inside.. it has been fine engraved in script writing form...... Jonathan Young, Ob, 23 July, Ao, 1826 At 64.

Google ... Jonathan Young ... you will find he was born in 1762 and died in 1826 aged 64 .. he was a Doctor - Physician - Surgeon from Lambeth in London and a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, the sort of Gentleman family of wealth to own such a ring as this.....his wife Mary Waring (1778 - 1845 ) was an illegitimate daughter of Charles Howard - 11th Duke of Norfolk...they had 3 children..... one of their sons ....  Sir Charles George Young became an Officer of Arms which is a very important role for Her Majesty ... he was put thru good schooling and education by the HOWARD family... which must have been something to do with his mother Mary and her father, there must have been a legal document written about her childrens welfare etc.

Check out this one below which mentions Jonathan Young and Mary Waring on the actual coat of arms for their son.. it is near the bottom at number can also find Jonathan Young\'s Esq....  WILL at the Kew Records Office too online .. which is interesting.

As well as another son Henry Young , a solicitor to the Governors of Harrow son ... James Forbes Young who followed in his fathers footsteps being a surgeon and a distinguished naturalist.

The ring is really fabulous of top quality and worthy of being in any antique collection... it has done so well not to have been MELTED down by the scrappers.. we have saved it once again ...since buying this from a live sale.

It is 21mm dia overall to the outer edge of the raised foliate engraved sides x 1cm wide band and it is about a size UK - L/M ....USA its about a 6 to 6 and a 1/4  finger ring size.... the inner dia is nearly 18mm...it weighs approx....8grams..
