Antique 1910 Seth Thomas Mahogany Adamantine Mantle Clock8 Day #89 MovementI have owned this clock for many years and it has never let me down. It is an antique Seth Thomas Adamantine (Celluloid) Mahogany 8-day Mantle clock. I have always referred to it as a library or lawyers clock because of it\'s stately form and simplistic, reserved style.
The single, wide columns on each side of the clock frame the dial perfectly and the simple arched top is reminiscent of an ancient Roman building. It sits firmly on 4 brass feet. This clock looks great in any room and would make any mantle complete.
The pictures appear dark, but it is a glossy, dark reddish mahogany with white dial and black painted numbers.It has gone through periods of daily use, but most recently has been stored for more than 10 years. The finish on the top edge has a few small splits due to shrinkage as older Adamantine is known to do and has a couple small dents, but presents very well. The dial is in very good condition with a few minor age marks and the glass is clean and clear.
After a light cleaning and a few drops of oil, it immediately ran for 5 days and gained about 5 minutes. I adjusted the time without winding it and it ran for another 3 days just by moving it, still a little ahead of time by a few minutes. I have not adjusted the fast/slow adjustment on the front dial, but will leave that for its new owner. The 89A movement on this clock likes to run and will do so with the slightest nudge to the clock.
The clock has an 8-day movement marked ST \"Made In USA\" and \"89a\". It strikes the number of hours on the hour and once every half hour. The sound of the gong is nice and resonates well. The clock is in good working order but I make no guarantee\'s due to its age, however it has run for a very long time and could use a more thorough cleaning and oiling.
It\'s original brass pendulum and double sided brass 6/4 key are included.
