Antique 19th C Bronze Paint Brush Pot Vase - Chinese or Japanese Meiji period:
$106.92

Antique bronze brush pot or vase, either Chinese or Japanese but difficult to determine unless further research is done. The design comprises of swallows on a Cherry tree with Blossom so this could indicate that it is 19th Century and Japanese Meiji period (1868 - 1912). The Swallow combined with a blossoming cherry tree normally symbolised Spring and good fortune, prosperous change.
On one side there are two cartouches one large and one small, where the makers mark or signature is plus possibly the period/rulers details. For some reason these have been taken out and replaced with 2 blank rectangles. No idea why this might be, although the Meiji period was controversial and was not popular with many circles in Japan in the years since this period, so this might be why.
Beautiful object with a lovely patina and also in very good condition apart from the removal of the marks.
Any questions please ask.
