An antique mid 19th century porcelain teapot & lid with a neoclassical Grecian decoration, unmarked but most probably by Samuel Alcock, and dating to circa 1850.

The teapot is of ovoid form and has a matt black finish on a glazed white ground with red trim. The body has been decorated with brightly coloured Grecian style neoclassical motifs : a chariot to one side, three figures to the other, a crowned portrait to the base of the spout, an urn and lyre to the shoulder, and a laurel wreath behind the handle. The deep sided lid has a conforming design and a loop \'branch\' handle - please see photos and click to enlarge.

The pot is unmarked other than the hand written \'2 x\' to the interior of the lid.

Size : Approx 5 1/2\" tall and 8 1/4\" long at maximum points.

Condition : Good antique condition with no damage or restoration, light rubbing / wear to the matt black ground commensurate with age and use, mostly to the top of the handle & spout, and with some \'shiny\' areas and scattered small scratches throughout.
