Shrewsbury, England.Description:This is a delightful and exceptional piece of antique embroidery.The design is gorgeous as can be seen and it is framed with glass to either side so that the reverse of the stitches can also be seen.The material is a fine linen or cotton and the design has been stitched in the tiniest cross stitches, using the spaces between warp and weft threads as the guide for the stitches.This is an antique piece, my inclination is that it dates to the beginning of the 19th century- probably pre-Victorian. It has a lightness of touch in the use of pattern and simplicity of design that suggest this early date to me.This is a lovely piece and will be a great find for the right person.Condition: Very good- are areas of discolouration to the left hand side- these are not unattractive. The glass to the reverse is taped.
Measurements:The framed item is 30 cm by 23 cm. The embroidery is 19.5 cm by 13 cm.
