Antique 19th century cameo brooch Rare- Atalanta lion hunting- Very rare. 9 ct:

This is a very finely carved, gold mounted shell cameo brooch dating to the 19th century. It depicts a goddess type figure, mounted on a horse and hunting a lion with a spear- I think that it may be a depiction of the goddess Atalanta. The image is lively and the carving is of top quality.It is quite a large brooch, 5.2 cm by 4.3 cm. The mount is unmarked but tests as 9 carat gold. It has a barley twist edge and there is a safety chain fitted. The clasp is simple hook and the pin is hinged, it is strong and secure.This is an exceptional brooch and will make a great addition to the right collection or will look fantastic worn.
