Antique 19thC Gilt Copper & Zinc Pilot House Eagle Weathervane American Folk Art:
$1700.00

Up for your consideration is this excellent 43\" late 19th century gilt molded copper eagle. This eagle was retrieved from a large estate in the highlands of Fall River, MA. Fall River was known, along with New Bedford as one of the largest ports for fishing, whaling and passenger ships in Massachusetts at the height of the industrial revolution. This eagle is believed to be a pilot eagle that sat atop one of the steamers in the bay. We see this eagle has cast zinc talons which show that it once clutched a ball or mount. The eagle looks as though it may have been recoated as we see two tones of gold (see photos) we do see some minor bending, and some slight areas of seams spiting (see photos). This eagle has a small hole in the base with a rounded, flush edge which shows it may have been perched on a pole. This eagle has two smaller holes in the back with a heavy gauge wire strung through it. When taken from the original estate this eagle was hanging in the rafters of the attic. We do see some surface build up on the backside (see photos). This eagle measures approximately 43 inches wide, 24 inches tall and 8 inches deep. Please message us with any questions.Thank you!Alexander and MelanieWe offer a 100%, unconditional, 14 day Money Back Guarantee that the buyer will be totally satisfied with the Quality, Condition and Authenticity of each item we sell.
