Large Antique Chased & Hammered Austrian, Viennese Silver Tea Tray

Exceptional 19th century Austrian, Viennese .800 silver tea tray! Hand chased, engraved and hammered to create a beautiful wild rose and flower border, with scrolled edging, and cut out lattice work! Huge size measures 26.75\" Long (handles included) x 17.5\" Wide. Total weight of 1666 grams, or approximately 53.56 troy ounces. Not quite as pure as \"Sterling\" as we know it today- this plater has is graded with an 80% / .800 purity - rather than 92.5% or .925; which was common forolder serving pieces. Etched design in the center features floral detailing and a single interwoven cattail, a symbol of peace and prosperity. Never monogrammed!

Properly hallmarked on the front edge with the Diana\'s head Austrianassay mark, which wasusedbetween the years of 1872-1922. This mark includes a \"3\" which indicates a purity of .800 parts silver and an \"A\" which is the city mark for Vienna. The tray is also hallmarked with a makers mark of \"ES\" which is attributed to Eduard Steiter, who was active from 1889 to1920. He specialized in tableware such as candlesticks, bowls, cups andthe like. It is also marked with two very small underlined \"A\" on back side of the handle - which we believe to be import marks.

Overall very good antique condition with normal wear marks, a few tiny dings on the tray surface, and some small stress fractures on the rim to note. There are six stress fractures in total, all similar, and all located on the rim, where the deep creases of the bowl come up to meet the lattice work. The stress fractures measure between 2-5mm at the most and do not cause a visible gap. The last photo above highlights the nature of the flaws by showing the worst of them. Additional photos can be provided upon request, but they are all truly minor and do not compromise the structural stability of the tray or it\'s beauty! Could be repaired if desired, but we will leave that to the buyers discretion.

Truly an exquisite old world piece - very romantic, and sure to compliment a variety of tea sets, or Turkeys this holiday season!!!
