We are pleased to offer a beautiful antique covered stoneware jar, finished in dark brown Albany Slip glaze. Ithas aclassic shape and a terrific look.

Pottery makers across upstate New York turned out millions of pieces of utilitarian stoneware in the 19th century. It was not considered valuable and as such, was not preserved or well cared for.

Much of it was finished in a dark brown glaze called Albany Slip. The glazewas high in mineral content which accounts for the variations in color - it can be almost black to lighter shades of brown. The firing process caused color variations as well. Many of the pieces show the fingerprints of the pottery who dipped the piece into the glaze before firing.

We will be offering a number of these pieces in the coming weeks. They are great for accenting country or primitive decor. Please be sure to addus to your favorites listand check back often.

Condition: Overall very good -there are minor chips at the opening andthe top has significant chipping as seen in the photos.
