THIS IS A sale THAT I HAVE STARTED AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE FOR THIS CLOCK.

You are offerding on aBEAUTIFULcondition Antique ANSONIA " Mercury or Hermes " figural mantel clock.From the information available i believe it to have been made around 1885. It is15 INCHES TALL, 17 INCHES WIDE AND 9 INCHES DEEP. All the parts are original and as shown in the pictures.It comes with a key and the original pendulum as shown in the pictures. it has a beautiful open escapement face made out of porceline with roman numeral numbers. it is signed "ansonia clock co. patented ". the decorative door over the face is round with with abeveled edge. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS CLOCK IS BEAUTIFUL.

PLEASE NOTE, the clock has a special decorativeback plate for the mechanizm. i've tried to show how decorative it is in the pictures. i have neverseen one like this before.it has all the stampings of production as it should but depending on how you are looking at it you can't always see them. the stampings are as follows:

The clock was just serviced and cleaned andkeeps perfect time and chimes (gongs) the number of hours on the hour and once on the half hour . The chimes resound as if it was a grandfathers clock AND HAVE A VERY PRETTY SOUND.

The Ansonia Clock Company was formed in May 1850 by Anson G. Phelps, Theodore Terry and Franklin C. Andrews and was located in Ansonia, which was then a village in the town of Derby, Connecticut. An interesting note is that the Ansonia Clock Company was one of only 3 companies which exhibited their wares in the New York World’s Fair in July 1853. They exhibited mainly their cast iron cased clocks with paint and mother of pearl inlays. In the mid 1920s, the clock company was sold to Russia’s Armtog Trading Corporation with US workers moving to Russia to train those employees. In 1948, the company folded and then in 1969, the Ansonia trademark was re-established and today manufactures clocks as the Ansonia Clock Company, Inc. This clock is an early figural clock in the bronze style. This open escapement with jeweled pallets is in the figure of Mercury. This Mercury figural clock is featured in Tran Duy Ly’s book on Ansonia clocks and is highly collectible. It is listed in that book for $1600 in the 2004 price guide.
