This is an original, very late 1800\'s-early 1900\'s, heavy paper card stock or cardboard fan with the front being an image of Admiral George Dewey U.S.N. - Hero of the Battle of Manila in the Spanish American War.The back side is typical of these advertising fans of this era. It advertises a business in Clarion, Iowa that was probably a general dry goods store or drugstore. It is from the business S.B. Hamilton & Son, Dealers in Drugs, Books, Staionery, Paints, Oils, &c. There is a pencil hand written name on the back side. Probably the original owner. As you can see, the fan is missing its flat wood handle that would have been stapled to the fan or vice versa. The staples have pulled out or been removed but they did not tear any of the fan but only left tiny staple holes. Otherwise the fan is in quite good shape and the color litho is very strong. There is a little normal surface soiling an ding or two but very minor. You could either find an appropriate handle to mount this too if you had a fan with a less appealing front or could have something made out of old thin wood. It would look nice framed and displayed just as it is without the handle but will leave that up to you.
