Description:

Great Late 18th, Early 19th Century American Wooden Caged Foot Warmer with GREAT Tin Diamond Decorations

What a classic American Primitive. This circa 1780-1830 American foot warmer was recently uncovered here in Upstate NY. It is the second offered, the first having heart decorations, this one having diamond decorations.

Often called a "Foot Warmer" or "Foot Stove" the piece would have been filled with hot coals from a fireplace and kept at the users feet for added warmth; the heat coming through the various punch work holes on the tin box.

This piece comes complete with it\'s original tin circular insert.

As you can see all sides of the piece were expertly assembled by a period tin smith who embossed the panels with diamond decorations - charming!

Please click on the individual images to see detailed enlargements of construction, design and great condition.

From its age there is some expected oxidation to the tin, though overall a solid very good++ example. Even retains its original closure wire mechanism to keep the door shut.

The wooded body of the piece also has some associative wear, some areas of wear at the corners, edges, etc. Again the pictures will highlight the condition.

Original wire hanging handle also present. About as fine of an original example as one could hope to find.

A classic American primitive, complete with great folk art heart designs.

Certain to be a welcomed addition to any period collection or as a great accent to any Colonial or Country Decorum.

Outside measurements on the wooden cage are approx. 9" x 7 1/2" x 5 3/4"

We are pleased to offer this piece on a five day sale with and a low starting offer!

Thanks for visiting us here at Foxrun-Farms, now in our 15th year on ! - Be sure to check our other sales this week for other great examples of period metalware and primitives!
