I\'m going out on a limb here, but I think this set is American. I used to think it was German--and it quite well could be--but the longer I\'ve studied it, the more I think it\'s American. Regardless, the set dates to about 1916 and is quite lovely. There are a total of nine pieces: three cups, three saucers, teapot and lid (two pieces) and one tray. All of the illustrations are of landscapes with churches, farms, people and bodies of water with boats. The illustrations are surrounded by a beautiful blue-and-gold abstract design.
SCENES:Cups: There are two small rounds on each side of the cup. Inside is a scene of a farm house on the edge of the water. Trees fill the background.Saucers: The same scene on the cups is on the saucers.Teapot and lid: A farm and church are on the shore of a river or lake, on which there is a sailboat.Tray: A farmhouse is set in the middle distance. In the foreground a woman walks down the path with a child. Trees fill the background.
DIMENSIONS:Cups: 1 3/4\" tallSaucers: 3 1/2\" diameterTeapot and lid: 3\" tall x 4\" wide (end of handle to tip of spout)Tray: 9\" x 6 1/4\"
CONDITION:Cups: The cups are in wonderful condition, with only flecks of paint loss in a few areas. The interior of the cups has darkened, but the silver still shines through in places. However, for some reason, all three cups are missing their handles.Saucers: One saucer is in very good condition, with only minimal wear on the gold border, though almost nothing on the litho itself. Unfortunately, the other two saucers have suffered a lot of paint loss on the lithos; the gold borders are in better condition.Teapot and lid: The teapot is in good condition. There are a number of small areas of paint loss on the lithos and a lot of spotting on the lid. Most of the gold on the handle and top of spout is gone, but the bottom part of the spout is still almost completely intact.Tray: While there is a considerable amount of wear on the tray, it really has not impacted the litho. There is a lot of spotting in the sky of the illustration and on the decorative background.
