In this sale, we are offering a beautiful Antique Ex-Voto Reliquary from France.

This is a wonderful example of the creatively designed handicraft work accomplished in French Monasteries by cloistered nuns at the turn-of-the-century.

Since this Ex-Voto features the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it was probably created by the Visitation Nuns or by the nuns at the Sacre-Coeur Basilica on Montmartre.

Mounted beneath a clear piece of convex glass is the color image of the suffering Sacred Heart of Jesus.

This vivid red Heart is surmounted by a cross while glittery, gold rays emanate in the background.

Silver thorns are wrapped around the Heart causing It to bleed.

Measuring about 3” x 3 ½”, the reliquary has been placed within an oval brass frame which is enhanced with Art Nouveau details.

There is a ring on the reverse side for hanging. While taking the pictures for this sale, I noticed that the Sacred Heart, beneath the convex glass is loose ……. An easy fix for the new owner ….

Despite some of my scans, the pierced Sacred Heart is deep RED …. NOT pink.

This is definitely a one-of-a-kind antique and would enhance any home or collection.
