The piece dates from 1887, and was originally given to honor a Blue Lodge Past Master. Featuring meticulous craftsmanship and fine detailing, this medal has been fashioned from 14k yellow gold and sterling silver. The badge is composed of a top bar attached to a blue ribbon and a suspended medallion. The center of the top bar is adorned with a blue-enameled star bearing the number 241 written in gold. Framed in milgrain gold, the smoothly polished bar bears the engraved name James Cable. The center of the ribbon showcases the date, 1887, written in gold lettering accompanied by ornate detailing on either side. Another bar of gold featuring an open-cutwork botanical design completes the ribbon and leads to the suspended medallion. The medallion is composed of sterling silver and features a compass. The top of the medallion showcases the traditional compass and square icons done in gold, while a gold G adorns the blue-enameled center. Composed of white enamel and framed in blue enamel and milgrain gold, a banner under the icons presents the all-seeing eye and the number 241. Tools of the trade crafted in gold and an open Bible adorn the arms of the medallion. Another banner hanging from the underside of the medallion again presents the number 241 and the symbol of the Pythagorean theory. The back of the badge engraved Presented to James Cable, North Star Lodge 241, December 27, 1887. The top bar is fitted with a bar and hook clasp that is in good condition.This badge has been professionally tested to verify its 14k gold purity and sterling silver composition. Please note that the original ribbon is somewhat frayed as would be expected of a piece this old, and the badge has not been polished in order to maintain its vintage patina. Dating back more than a century and a quarter, this badge would make a valued addition to your Masonic collection.
