Pair (2) of Original Antique Ox Bone Dicedated to reign of King George III with Revolutionary War Tax Paid Stamp ( Stamp Act of 1765 ) consisting of red outline of the Imperial \"Crown\" and the initials \"GR\" for George Rex on the number \"six\" side of the dice. On March 22, 1765, the Revolutionary War Tax/Stamp Act, which included dice and other gambling items, was approved for the Colonies. It was sponsored by Lord Granville and 10 shillings tax was to be collected for every pair of dice sold. This unpopular tax was repealed in 1766. These dice were completely carved by hand with curved edges and inlaid black painted numbers. I have seen these dice in a number of different sizes ranging from 5/16\" or 8mm to 17/32\" or 14mm. This pair of dice is the larger size, 17/32\" or 14mmcubed and the pair weigh 8.7 grams or 0.305 ounces. They would have been stamped in either 1765 or 1766 which makes them almost 250 years old.
