Antique bronze clad camel doorstop bookend KBW Kathodian Bronze, near mint, 1917:
$165.00
Wonderful figure of a camel at rest, incredible detail in the animal itself as well as the saddle, bridle and blanket which has a design woven into it. Too large to be a single bookend so probably created as a doorstop or decorative object.
Bronze-clad, no maker\'s mark but a bookend person recently (5/13 ) sent me a copy of a page from a Kathodian Bronze catalogue and this camel is shown as a stand-alone item, titled simply, \"Camel.\" But knowing it is KBW dates it to the mid-19teens, at which point Kathodian Bronze Works went out of business. So the piece is close to 100 years old.
Condition is excellent with the only \"damage\" being a single bit of cladding flaking off in a hard-to-see (and very hard to photograph) location. Otherwise, absolutely no dents, breaks, scratches or repairs. And the patina is gorgeous.
This is a large figure: 5 1/2 inches tall at the camel\'s head; 8 1/2 inches long from lips to tail tip.
