This is part of the group that we purchased that had San Francisco and California ties.
It consists of Civil War soldiers and officers. We will be listing a few more Civil War images. The opening offer is our reserve.
This is an interesting antique CDV, or Carte de Visite. It is a portrait of a Union Army Civil War General. We believe this is General Joseph Hooker. We apologize if we are wrong and welcome info from you experts. General Hooker achieved the rank of Major General during the Civil War. This photo was produced by the Philadelphia Photographic Company of Philadelphia, we believe from an etching. The portrait is a lovely sepia brown with a slight hint of lavender/blue and has very good contrast. The CDV is a hair under 2 1/2 by 4 inches. The corner tips are bumped. Please note there is a light stain at the upper right edge of the card and quite light staining at the lower right area of the photo. This is quite pale and there is a light stain on the card at the bottom area. We estimate this to be from about 1863 or so. What a nice portrait of a General Hooker!
