Antique BRITISH ROYAL NAVY 1 Pint Rum Measure or Grog Measure, Victorian 19th Century with full proper markings and construction.
From the private collection of a wealthy collector.Heavy copper construction. Riveted folded copper handle with three rivets, with age-darkened original tinning inside. Marked with the Broad Arrow (or \"Crow\'s Foot\" showing active in-service use for British Armed Forces.
The cipher just under the rim which indicates which monarch was on the British throne when the cup was put into service clearly shows \"VR\" for Victoria Regina, Queen Victoria.
Marked \"1 pt.\" in 19th century Victorian Script Italics.
Construction and markings say that this is an authentic Royal Navy piece, but we can only speculate about its specific history.
3 1/2\" high, 4\" diameter, 6 1/2\" wide across the handle.
Very nice vintage. Solid - no wobbly handle. Lettering and cypher worn from many years of polishing, inside and outside of the Royal Navy. Tinning on the inside darkened with age. Some small dings and dents, but overall very good + A very pleasing object.
